In approaching this scene, I had a clear vision of the story I wanted to tell and the method by which I would execute it. Creating a landscape and outdoor environment in Houdini, particularly incorporating foliage, provided an excellent opportunity for practice. I dedicated additional time to developing tree and bush recipes, aiming to streamline the creation of future environments.
The scene was inspired by a song that depicts a car crash victim in a coma, with a thematic influence drawn from the film The Ritual. I focused on introducing contrasting elements—such as clean and dark elements—into a woodland setting to evoke tension and depth.
This project presented a valuable challenge, allowing me to complete a scene within a short time frame of only a few weeks with existing assets, all while maintaining a simple yet impactful theme. It also gave me the chance to hone my sequencer skills, aligning the visuals with a selected portion of the song to reinforce the emotional tone.
Quick run through of setting up my procedural foliage through Houdini and an HDA.
Had a little fun playing with a more panicked camera shot.
